Shin Kubo has resigned as CIO of Mizuho Global Alternative Investments, a role he has had for just over six years. Earlier he was at Russell Investments in Tokyo, London and Singapore for over a decade. Prior to that he was at Sumitomo LIfe Insurance for many years.
Jake Carnow has joined LMR Partners in Hong Kong as a portfolio manager. He was most recently working on portfolio management at Nine Masts Capital. Earlier he was a founding partner at Segantii Capital Management and had a stint at Goldman Sachs in San Francisco.
Highbridge Capital Management is understood to have hired Karyo Oh as a PM in its Asian equities long/short team in Hong Kong. Oh has spent the past year as a PM at BlueCrest Capital Management. Previously Oh has worked at Marshall Wace, Citadel, Owl Creek, Asuka and Fidelity.
Pascal Guttieres, until recently UBS’s Asian head of block trading, has joined Segantii Capital Management in Hong Kong. Earlier he was at SocGen. Segantii, a US$1.7bn hedge fund firm, has also hired trader Joseph Chang (ex-Davidson Kempner) and portfolio risk management analyst Stephanie Chen (ex-Eton Park Capital Management).
Koji Takeuchi has left Daiwa Fund Consulting to join APS Asset Management as head of its Japanese investment office. He will start his new position on 2nd May.
Geraldine Lin, who most recently spent a year at Acadian Asset Management, has joined Ivaldi Capital in Singapore as a trader. Earlier she was a trader at Saga Tree Caital Advisors, Novatera Capital and Prusik Investment Management. Lin is understood to be working on all the three investment strategies managed by the Asian office of the London headquartered multi-billion dollar mutli-strategy fund management firm.
Asia ex-Japan hedge fund managers were up for the first time this year. They gained 4.78% during March, according to Eurekahedge.
Taiwanese mutual fund house Yuanta is planning to launch some CTA strategies as it starts to move into alternative investments.
Xuan Liu has joined Millennium Management in Singapore as a portfolio manager. Previously Liu held analyst roles at Point72 Asset Management/SAC and JL Capital.
The Eurekahedge Asian Hedge Fund Awards 2016 will be taking place in Singapore on 27th May. Among the nominated hedge fund managers are Parametrica, Segantii, Tairen, Kiara, Pinpoint, Akito, Monterey, J Flag, SPQ Asia, Springs, Pheim, APS, Hayate, Asuka, GCI, Pine River, Theoria, Serica, Graticule, Sylebra, and many more.
