Alex McCarthy, who previously built up Mesirow Financial’s Asian presence, has joined insurance company Aflac in Tokyo as a manager in the office of the COO. Earlier in his career he spent time with Federated Investors and BNY Mellon.

Acion Partners, the Asian event-driven hedge fund set up in Hong Kong by York Capital’s former Asia head Feng Hsiung, has hired Toru Nakahashi (ex-JP Morgan, Rockhampton, Credit Suisse) and Hitesh Chetan Uttamchandani (ex-Abax) as portfolio managers.
According to Eurekahedge, Asian hedge funds were up 5.88% in April and 9.40% year-to-date, and have increased their AUM base by US$13.3 billion since the start of the year.
Aoife McGillion, until recently CFO of Ardon Maroon Fund Management in Hong Kong, has joined the Securities and Futures Commission in a risk and strategy role. Earlier she was at Merrill Lynch and KPMG.
RWC Partners has hired Everest Capital’s 15-person emerging markets team. Most of the team will be based in Miami, but Garret Mallal, a portfolio manager, and Min Chen, an Asian equity research analyst, will be based in a new RWC office in Singapore.
Hiroaki Saito, previously with SPRING (Specialised Research and Investment Group), has joined Bayview Asset Management in a marketing role.
