According to Eurekahedge, new fund launches in Asia dropped in the first half of 2014 compared to the same period last year, with 40 hedge fund start-ups this year versus 70 in the previous year.

Diego Parrilla, the former head of commodities trading, sales and origination for Asia Pacific at Bank of America Merrill Lynch who set up his own commodities hedge fund firm Nareco Advisors in 2011, has joined BlueCrest Capital Management as a portfolio manager in Singapore. Earlier in his career he worked at Goldman Sachs and JP Morgan. His colleague James Luong, who was an analyst and risk manager at Nareco, has joined the Thetis Macro Opportunities fund at Swiss-Asia Financial Services.

The senior management team at Northstone Peak Capital, an Asian credit focused hedge fund manager, has become part of Carlyle’s Asian structured credit group. Northstone was launched in 2010 by Gregory Park (ex-Deutsche, Credit Suisse, Credit Agricole), Carol Lee (ex-JP Morgan, Merrill Lynch, Henderson, Entropy Ventures) and Tor Trivers (ex-Natixis, Nomura).

Martin Visairas, Citi’s Asia Pacific head of prime brokerage sales and capital introduction, is being relocated from Hong Kong to London for a role in the firm’s European cap intro team. Carl Davey will take over as head of alternatives sales in Asia and Rob Baigrie as Asian head of capital introduction and business advisory. Visairas joined Citi in 2010 from Old Mutual.

Following a long career in Asian prime brokerage, Hannah Goodwin has relocated to London to launch Goodwin Porter Advisors, an independent director service company. She was most recently Asian regional head of prime finance at Citi. Earlier she was Asian regional head of prime brokerage at Deutsche and also spent a number of years at Morgan Stanley’s prime brokerage. She kicked off her career in the 1980s at SG Warburg and then worked at Credit Suisse First Boston and St James’s Place Capital.

Stephen Woodrow in Hong Kong, who left JP Morgan’s prime brokerage earlier this year after 13 years at JP Morgan/Bear Stearns, has joined Newedge.

Jess Au (ex-Vegasoul Capital Management) and Sophia Huang (ex-Polaris), have launched hedge fund firm Jaala Asset Management in Hong Kong with plans to launch a pan-Asian hedge fund. The pair is joined at the new firm by Sam Wong (ex-Vegasoul, BNP Paribas, Daiwa) and Jason Lo (ex-Yuanta).

Craig Lindsay has retired from CITIC Securities International Investment Management where he has developed its alternative investments business as COO. Lindsay spent most of his career at Goldman Sachs in the 1980s and 90s.

Arcus Investment has hired Shotaro Minami as an analyst. He was most recently a researcher and investment adviser at NLI Research Institute and earlier he was a wealth management consultant at Nikko Cordial.

Henry Chan has joined CITIC Securities International as a trader. He was most recently at Altis Partners and earlier had stints at Vegasoul Capital Management, UOB Kay Hian and Okachi.
