Investment analyst Joshua Lee has left Evonne Tan’s Magenta Advisors to join Deutsche Bank. Earlier in his career Joshua was at Blue Rice Investment Management.

Toru Okabe, the former head of Goldman Sachs’ Japanese prime brokerage, has returned to the industry in an advisory role at Japan Alternative Investment, a unit of Mitsui & Co.

Seiji Ishii has left Millburn’s Tokyo office to join Acadian Asset Management. Earlier in his career Ishii-san has worked at GAM, Welington, Merrill Lynch, Sakura Asset Management and SMBC.

Cong Li (ex-Mirae) has teamed up with Goldman Sachs Investment Partners to launch Oryza Capital, a pan-Asian equity long/short strategy.

Mark Devonshire, the former head of Merrill Lynch’s Principal Credit Group in Asia and Europe, has taken his mCapital, launched in 2009 and focused on the Asian and European special situations markets, and moved it into Chenavari Financial Group.

Highbridge Capital Management plans to launch an Asia-focused multi-strategy fund.

Koichi Shijima has left JP Morgan in Tokyo to join BlueMountain Capital.

Global Commodities Limited, the commodities investment manager founded by Greg Smith, has expanded its team with the addition of a senior commodities banker from JP Morgan. Justin Hyde has joined the firm as a full-time director. Over the past 15 years he has been responsible for developing commodity investor businesses at JP Morgan, Barclays Capital and Macquarie Bank based out of London, New York, Chicago, Hong Kong and Singapore. Most recently, Justin held the position of Head of the Asia Commodity Investor Sales team at JP Morgan based in Singapore.

According to a recent survey by Preqin, Japanese institutions will lead Asian investor allocations into hedge funds globally in the coming 12 months.

Pine River Capital plans to launch a multi-strategy China hedge fund srategy in October. PM is Dan Li, partner and co-head of Asian trading.
