Tsukasa Shimoda (ex-Morgan Stanley) plans to start the Galleyla Fund, a Japan-focused strategy on UMJ’s hedge fund platform in Tokyo.

Hong Kong based Ascalon Capital Managers, a unit of Australia’s Westpac Banking
Corporation, has acquired a 30% stake in Singapore-based RV Capital Management and made an investment in the firm’s flagship Asia Opportunity Fund. The new AUM figure is US$50m.

Kurt Baker has joined Millennium Partners as its new head of business development in Asia. Prior to joining Millennium, Kurt was the co-founder of JT Capital Management and earlier in his carrer he spent 19 years at Morgan Stanley.

The Eurekahedge Asia ex-Japan Hedge Fund Index returned an estimated +0.42% in February which brings YTD to +4.32%.

AQG Capital Management in Singapore has been seeded by South Korea’s Hyundai Securities. AQG is led by Dr Kim Hong-shik (ex-ABN AMRO, K39 and Minsoo Seo (ex-Korea Investment Corporation).

Pierre Prunier, who recently left Seekers Advisors, has joined multi-family office Oclaner Asset Management as Head of Direct Investments.

Rick Okuno, most recently at SMBC Nikko, has joined GI Capital Securities in Tokyo.

Priscilla Phoon has left Value Partners. She worked in business development for the firm in both Singapore and Hong Kong.

Kam Bahra, COO of Expedition Advisors, is reportedly leaving the firm to join Double Haven Capital. Double Haven’s head of distribution Robert Lance has left the firm while Expedition has hired Kishore Suratkal from Deutsche Bank.
