Woori Absolute Partners in Singapore and its French incubation partner NewAlpha have announced the first strategic investment of the Woori NewAlpha Fund with Mosaic Asset
Management, a new fund focused on Asian equity strategies. Mosaic was founded by Aussies Tristan Edwards (CIO, ex-Brevan Howard, Trafalgar Capital, Goldman Sachs) and Greg Laughlin (COO, ex-Credit Suisse).

Hong Kong-based Bobby Wood has left Matchpoint Investment Mangement to join Serica Partners as director of business development. Earlier in his career he worked at UBP and UBS.

AIMA has appointed Chris Pearce, Asian COO of Marshall Wace, as deputy chairman.

According to Eurekahedge, the population of Asian hedge funds declined in 2012 with 123 launches and 148 closures – the total number of funds currently stand at 1291, managing US$127.8 billion.

Pierre Prunier has resigned from Seekers Advisors in Singapore for a new role in the industry. Earlier in his career he had stints with CME and Eurekahedge.

Singapore-based SRF’s Asia-focused FoF is off to a good start. The SRF Germinate fund which was launched in December has so far allocated to nine Asian managers, eight of them being Japanese. SRF is currently managing $50m.

Equity traders Allen Chu and Ashwin Ranganathan have left Tudor Investment Corporation in Singapore as the firm moves away from equity trading in Asia to focus more on macro strategies.
