Toby Bartlett (ex-Citadel, Highbridge) who set up Arena Capital Management in Hong Kong last year to run a Japan equity long/short fund has now been seeded by FRM Capital, a unit of Man Group.

Stacie Wang has resigned from Man Investments in Hong Kong where she has worked since 2010. Earlier in her career she has worked at BBVA and RBS.

Kapil Kirpalani has joined Ortus Capital Management in Hong Kong as head of legal. Most recently he was director of legal at Pacific Harbor Capital.

The Eurekahedge Asia ex-Japan Hedge Fund Index returned an estimated +3.20% in December which brings YTD to +11.54%.

The Eurekahedge Japan Hedge Fund Index returned an estimated +3.97% in December which brings YTD to +6.60%.

Akshayam Capital in Singapore has hired Mark Seng as COO. He has previously worked at a couple of hedge funds as well as at State Street, JP Morgan Chase, Citigroup Asset Management and DBS Bank.

Triskele Capital Management in Hong Kong, led by Otto Chan and Tsuyoshi Shiba, has shut down its two hedge funds. AUM peaked at US$606m and went down to US$132m following redmeptions and poor performance.

The one and only Liz Mak has left her IR gig at Hong Kong’s Marco Polo Pure Asset Management. She’s not gone fishing but she’s “on a sailing break”.

According to estimates by Eurekahedge, 2012 saw a net outflow of $600m from Japanese hedge funds and $300m from Asia ex-Japan funds. On a global level Eurekahedge estimates that total hedge fund assets grew by $75 billion taking the size of the overall industry to $1.78 trillion.
