Paul Smith, founder, chairman and CEO of Triple A Partners in Hong Kong, is leaving the firm to take up a role as managing director – Asia-Pacific at the CFA Institute.
Alp Ercil (ex-Perry Capital), who set up Asia Research & Capital Management in Hong Kong earlier this year, has now closed the fund to new money. The firm has raised US$940m making it the biggest Asian launch this year. The fund is focused on distressed investment opportunities in credit and equities in Asia.
Adelene Tan, who headed the Government Investment Corporation of Singapore’s alternatve investment unit, has retired from the firm.
The Eurekahedge Japan Hedge Fund Index returned an estimated -0.60% for July (+0.29% YTD)while the Eurekahedge Asia ex-Japan Hedge Fund Index returned an estimated -0.18% (+1.53% YTD).
Henderson has decided to close down the Henderson Japan Absolute Fund, managed by John Stewart and Robert Tull, due to its small size.

Jason Gerber, head of operational due diligence at Japan-only FoF Rogers Investment Advisors, has left the firm. Prior to joining Rogers, which was set up by Ed Rogers in 2006, Gerber was COO of Amida Capital and has also worked at Shinsei Bank and Bamboo Capital.
